CU Bigs strives to provide children in Tompkins County with individual support, attention and mentorship. The organization will use the following methods to achieve this.
- Working with the Ithaca Youth Bureau to provide eligible children with a Big Brother or Big Sister.
- Assisting with program and activity planning to promote growth and development in the children of Tompkins County.
- Fundraising for the continuation of the Youth Bureau's programs.
CU Bigs works with Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Ithaca to mentor at-risk children in the Ithaca community between the ages of 6 and 14. Members volunteer at Saturday Programs at the Northside Community Center and help to run activities including sports, science projects, reading days, and much more. CU Bigs also aids the Ithaca Youth Bureau to raise funds for the continuation of their programs through the Battle of the Bands benefit concert in the Fall as well as the national Big Brothers Big Sisters’ fundraiser, Bowl for Kids’ Sake each Spring. CU Bigs can help match Cornell students with permanent One-to-One Little Brothers and Sisters to cultivate enduring relationships.
