About Us

Who We Are

The Cross-Cultural Adoptee Mentorship Program (C-CAMP) is a non-profit student-run outreach program affiliated with the Cornell University Public Service Center. Our initiative began in 2007 as Families with Children from China, the community outreach extension of the Language Pairing Program. In December 2009, C-CAMP was officially established by Jasmine BingXue Lin and Diana Chen as a Cornell University registered student organization. Today, the program is dedicated to fostering cultural understanding and appreciation in internationally-adopted youth in the Ithaca. C-CAMP achieves this by pairing these children with Cornell student mentors who share their heritage and become their friends and role models throughout their time together.

What We Do

C-CAMP  serves the unique needs of Ithaca's large transnational adoptive community by fostering interest and understanding of the adopted youths' ethnic language and culture. C-CAMP achieves this by pairing transnationally adopted youth with Cornell student mentors of a similar cultural background, conducting one-on-one meetings between the mentor and mentee, and by holding cultural-interest events throughout the semester. Currently, we have 15-20 ongoing mentor-mentee pairings each of which is unique and adapted to fit the child’s interests and personality.  During meetings, mentors provide an informal and fun learning environment so that the children can both have fun and learn about their ethnic culture and language. C-CAMP board members also organize group events, which allow all current and interested members to gather for fun and educational activities. C-CAMP is now seeking to collaborate with a different Cornell University cultural dance/ acapella/ performance group each semester as a way of augmenting cultural awareness and promoting C-CAMP’s mission. Additionally, we hope to incorporate an intergroup dialogue project and host a free Cultural Fair to further enhance C-CAMP’s presence both on and off campus.

Why You Should Join

Our Executive Board and mentors are wholly dedicated to providing the best friendship and mentoring experience for their mentees. We are a diverse group of accomplished, culturally-aware, and passionate students who like to have fun wherever schoolwork doesn't follow us.

Membership applications for both mentors and families are available on the top bar. Please email all applications and additional inquiries to cornellccamp@gmail.com. We look forward to working with you and welcoming you to the C-CAMP family!
