Spring 2014 Lecture

Professor Backus is an expert in Industrial Organization - a branch of economics that works extensively on the Theory of the Firm to study the strategic behavior of firms (e.g. how businesses like Time Warner and Comcast align themselves in a market such as cable-providing), and how corporate strategies affect consumer welfare. Before joining Cornell in 2013, Professor Backus worked at eBay Research Labs as a postdoctoral scholar for a year. For those of you who took ECON 4610 (Industrial Organization I) in Fall 2013, Professor Backus will be a familiar face!

The Cornell Economics Society is proud to host Harry C. Katz, The Kenneth F. Kahn Dean, Cornell School of ILR for an exciting talk about the role of labor and labor relations in the US auto industry on March 3, 2014 at 5pm in McGraw Hall 165. See our Facebook page for more information.

With the recent integration of the College of Arts & Sciences Economics and the ILR Economics program, this event will give you an opportunity to explore both disciplines and understand how they work together.

Bring your friends and be prepared to learn something new and be intellectually stimulated!
