Executive Board Members


 

Co-Program Coordinator - Nicholas Malchione

 

Nicholas Malchione is a senior in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, majoring in Food Science. He first joined Cornell Elderly Partnership during the winter of his sophomore year. He served as Co-Program Coordinator his junior year and is returning as Co-Program Coordinator this year. Nicholas has initiated programs such the Birthday Card Exchange, which consists of giving residents individualized cards on their birthdays. This year Nicholas hopes to continue to improve the quality of life for residents of nursing homes, especially those suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia, by improving the Music and Memory program. In addition to CEP, Nicholas is also a member of Cornell Emergency Medical Services and a Food Chemistry research lab.

 


 

Co-Program Coordinator – Hyunji Koo

 

Hyunji Koo is a senior in the College of Arts & Sciences, majoring in Chemistry. She started volunteering with CEP during her sophomore year, and has really enjoyed interacting with the elderly and developing relationships with people from the Ithaca community. She served as Visits Coordinator during her junior year, and is now excited to serve as Co-Program Coordinator during her last year at Cornell. Outside of CEP, she also conducts research in the BME department and plays the cello in the orchestra.

 


 

Activities Coordinator - Erin Grohe

 

Erin Groheis a junior human development, pre-med student, minoring in anthropology and dance. Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, Erin has found a home away from home in Ithaca as well as in CEP. This will be Erin’s second year serving as Activities Coordinator, though she has been with Cornell Elderly Partnership since her freshman fall. When not planning crafts and activities for our elderly companions, Erin can be found giving campus tours, tutoring Boynton middle school students, salsa dancing in Palante Latin Dance Troupe, and assisting in first year orientation. Her primary areas of interest include art, human interaction (particularly that of young children and the elderly), distance running, international culture (especially that of Spanish-speaking countries), and dance. She is also the executive director of Cornell’s own Dance Marathon: Big Red Thon, a dance-centered fundraising event entering its third year this fall. In the future, Erin aspires to be a pediatric physician working for a world relief agency such as Doctors Without Borders.

 


 

Outreach Coordinator - Aleena Kurumunda

 

Aleena Kurumundais a junior Mechanical Engineer interested in the design and development of prosthetics. She used to love spending time with her grandparents growing up, and she loves CEP as a way of reconnecting with members of the elderly community and hearing about their stories. In addition to CEP, she works at the Cornell Annual Fund and is the Operations VP of Alpha Xi Delta.

 


 

Projects Coordinator - Ali Farooqi

 

Ali Farooqi a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in Chemistry. Ali is a research assistant in a Chemistry lab where he works mainly on organic synthesis research. Besides volunteering with CEP, Ali is a peer mentor for CURB and also tutors chemistry courses for OADI in my spare time. Ali is interested in health as well as research, and hopes to go to medical school sometime in the future.

 


 

Training Coordinator - Isabelle Hashim

 

Isabelle Hashim is a senior from Branford, CT pursuing a degree in Biology & Society with a minor in Science & Technology Studies. Her roles at Cornell include volunteering at the local medical center, working in a neuroscience research lab, and serving as the Diversity Chair for her sorority. In her free time, she enjoys writing, watching and playing tennis, and reading up on politics. She hopes to attend medical school after graduating.

 


 

Publicity Coordinator - Julia Miao

 

Julia Miao is a junior, majoring in Biological Sciences. She loves volunteering and bonding with the elderly, and has enjoyed being a part of CEP since freshman year! She is super excited to be CEP's Publicity Coordinator!

 


 

Treasurer - Deirdre O'Hanlon

 

Deirdre O'Hanlon is a senior, majoring in Human Biology, Health, and Society. She joined Cornell Elderly Partnership as a sophomore, and is now serving as treasurer. She is excited to continue her involvement in service-learning and engagement within the Ithaca community. In addition to her involvement in CEP, she also serves as a teaching assistant in chemistry and biochemistry, is involved in research in psychology, and is a member of multiple campus and service organizations.

 


 

Visits Coordinator - Anita Kottapalli

 

Anita Kottapalli is a junior in the College of Human Ecology, majoring in Human Biology, Health and Society with a minor in gerontology.  She finds Elderly Partnership’s mission to foster mutual learning between students and elders in the Ithaca community so important after her experience working in a nursing home as a Certified Nurse Aide in her hometown.  Anita is looking forward to now serve as the Visits Coordinator for Elderly Partnership this year. On campus, she is also a part of GlobeMed at Cornell, National Health Preprofessional Honor Society Alpha Epsilon Delta, Sigma Delta Tau sorority, and Human Ecology Ambassadors.

Secretary - Sarah Lee

Sarah Lee is a senior in the College of Human Ecology, majoring in Human Development and minoring in Law & Society and Studies in Inequalities. She joined Cornell Elderly Partnership as a sophomore, and currently serves as the secretary. Sarah is also training as a counselor for EARS, a member of Alpha Phi Omega, and involved in a psychology lab.
