The Language Expansion Program Board

President: Erick Palma

Erick Palma is a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences, majoring in Computer Science. Erick speaks English and Spanish, and practices Japanese during LEP's Language Corners. This year as president, he looks forward to  coordinating language maintenance events to fulfill LEP's language learning vision. Outside of LEP, he drums for Cornell's only taiko drumming group, Yamatai. 


Senior Advisor:

Paola Camacho-Lemus

Paola Camacho-Lemus is a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences, double- majoring in Asian Studies and Religious Studies. She speaks English, Spanish, and Japanese. Her favorite thing about LEP is meeting new people and practicing Japanese at the weekly Language Corners. As Senior Advisor, she uses her knowledge to oversee the LEP board and advise them. Outside of LEP, she is the Cultural Chair of MEChA and the president of the Translator Interpreter Program.


Co-Treasurer: Aaron Jay

Aaron Jay is a sophomore majoring in Operations Research in the College of Engineering. In addition to English, he also speaks Mandarin and Cantonese, and is also currently studying German. He joined the Language Expansion Program to be a part of a multilingual environment that he enjoyed back in New York City and is now returning as treasurer. He hopes to help LEP increase its presence on campus by getting the funding it needs to host events like Taste of Culture.



Co-Treasurer: Camelia Wu

Camelia Wu is a sophomore majoring in Chemical Engineering in the College of Engineering. Having lived in China and Canada, she speaks both French and Mandarin. She is also learning Spanish. As co-treasurer, she works with Aaron to manage the program funds. Outside LEP, she is a member of Operation Smile and she is a foodie who loves travelling and art.



Webmaster: Kalen Chang

Kalen Chang is a sophomore from Chino Hills, CA, studying Linguistics and Math in the College of Arts & Sciences. He is serving as the webmaster this year, keeping the website up to date and sending out emails. He speaks Mandarin and has learned French before, and is currently taking Japanese at Cornell (practice with him!). Outside of LEP, he drums with Yamatai, a Japanese taiko group, and plays piano with the Cornell Piano Society. 



Organizational Chair: Symona Stans

Symona Stans is a sophomore majoring in Psychology and minoring in Film. She joined the LEP freshman year as the Event Planning Chair and is currently the Organizational Chair. She speaks Romanian and English and has studied French and Korean. Currently, she is taking German and Spanish at Cornell. Outside of the LEP, Symona loves eating and sleeping and sometimes even dancing.


Publicity Chair: Pippen Wu

Pippen Wu is a sophomore in the college of Arts & Sciences, majoring in Computer Science. He speaks Mandarin and English, and practices Japanese and Spanish in weekly language corners. As Publicity Chair, he will be designing posters and quarter cards for the program, as well as doing the layout for a newly established magazine named Polyglot.


Who are we?

The Cornell Public Service Center (PSC) Language Expansion Program (LEP) is a student-led program that fosters language learning in a comfortable, encouraging environment for its participants. LEP provides a unique opportunity for individuals in the Cornell and Ithaca community to pursue their interest in another language and to improve their ability to speak it. LEP seeks to reduce language barriers and to foster an environment that’s conducive to learning more about not only the technical aspects of the language, but also the culture that envelops it.
