Students Onto Scholars (SOS) for Education’s mission is to support motivated, low-income youth by providing them with the resources to help them attain a higher level of education. We aim to inspire and in turn be inspired to make long-lasting, positive impacts on education. Under the guidance of the Cornell Public Service Center, we seek to combat educational inequities and opportunity gaps by funding academic resources and supporting low socioeconomic status youth of the Ithaca area, particularly through our annual Student Opportunity Showcase, most recently known as March Fever!
Some major events that the members of SOS have organized and participated in in the past include Mini Talent Showcases (Bear’s Den & Alice Cook, Becker, and Flora Rose Houses), Into the Streets, hosted a movie screening of a film related to educational inequities, and the Student Opportunity Showcases for Education. SOS looks forward to innovating new programming this year to further raise awareness and support of our mission.
