Welcome to the online home of Ithaca Tangueros!

We are a student organization at Cornell University. We organize events for Argentine tango dancers at Cornell and the greater Ithaca area, including informal practices every Thursday, tango parties (milongas) every Sunday and occasional workshops with local and visiting instructors. We also maintain a mailing list, an events calendar and this website, with information about more tango events in Ithaca and upstate NY.

We do not dance competitively, we dance for fun! Check out this blog post for some general info about Argentine tango. If you like what you see, why not give it a try? We love new dancers, and tango is for everyone, young and old, introvert and extrovert, regardless of fitness level, talent or previous dance experience. Here are some ways to get started:

  • Cornell PE class, Fall session or Spring session. Once a week, FREE and open to the general public (people not affiliated with Cornell University). The next session starts January 28th. See www.pe.cornell.edu/classes for more details.

  • Progressive series of classes with local instructor Juan Brache. Lessons once a week on Mondays, at 119 West Court St., Ithaca. $75 per person for a series of 4 consecutive classes, $55 for students, $25 per drop-in lesson. The next series for complete beginners starts January 19th.

  • Free informal drop-in intro lessons during our Thursday practices, 7:30-8:30 pm, Physical Sciences Building (but see the calendar in case the location changes). These are informal, non-progressive classes taught by a rotating cast of our more experienced dancers. They can be a great way to see what tango is all about, before committing to a series to really solidify your knowledge.

Or just drop by our Thursday practices or Sunday tango parties to see what tango is all about. And feel free to contact us if you have any questions!

The next four-week beginner tango series will begin January 19 and will be taught by Juan Brache. Lessons are from 6:30-7:45pm at Lifelong and take place at 119 West Court St., Ithaca. This is Beginner I level, for absolute beginners and returning dancers. $75 per person, $55 for students, $25 per drop-in lesson. Please arrive 15 minutes early to register on the first day of this series.

Intermediate series: The intermediate class with Juan Brache takes place from 8:00pm till 9:15pm, same dates and location as the beginner series, and the price is as follow: $75.00 per person, $55.00 for students and $25 for drop-ins. The topic for the 4 weeks starting Jan. 19 is back sacadas with ganchos.
