Friends of Farmworkers was founded to provide consistent ESL instruction to area farmworkers who know little or no English. Furthermore, the group aims to raise student awareness of the conditions and experience of farm workers in the upstate New York region. Additionally, the group seeks to empower area farmworkers in order to position themselves for self-advocacy and integration into the broader community through improved English language proficiency.
Tutors meet with Farmworkers once a week for 1 hour sessions. Sessions are at local farms; these range from a 20 - 40 minute drive from campus.
Sessions depend on farmworker schedules, and are usually held on Thursday or Friday afternoons, or on Saturdays, at a fixed time through the semester.
